to pay for a program. he said he would cut pbs and big bird. he was very specific about what he would do. in certain places though romney questioned obama and obama just looked at him, when obama said basically you get a tax cut or a tax deduction for moving jobs overseas. mitt romney said i've been in business last 25 years, i don't know what you're talking about. basically obama was vague last night. but romney came with specifics. jon: cory, you described the debate as being sort of very specific and bordering on wonky but isn't that what people are looking for right now? aren't they looking for specifics and numbers and ideas here? >> i think you're absolutely right about that. always interesting to me tv commentators and others complain how debates and political discourse is boring and turning american people off whether this is exactly the time they should pay close attention. when they do this is when they see the contrast between the two candidates standing on same stage. if you look reports come out this morning, fact checkers, "l.a. times", "wall street journal", "washington po

is defending pbs? >> i'm not saying. >> that's it for us, thanks for watching, have a great weekend, bye. >> did mitt romney's post debate victory hit a speed bump with the unemployment rate? we'll break down what the numbers mean. this is special report. good evening, i'm bret baier. president obama is hailing the jobs report, showing a drop from 8.1% to 7.8, as a sign the country has come too far to turn back now. his republican challenger says the new numbers are not the sign of a true recovery, in fact, he says they're telling a far different story. the government's household survey says that 873,000 people entered the work force. but the employer survey found 114,000 new jobs created, 10,000 of those in government. so, the difference, about 760,000 are apparently not full-time stable jobs, what's known as the real unemployment mark, the unemployed and those too discouraged to look for work remains unchanged at 14.7%. white house correspondent wendell goler begins our coverage of the report and the spin. >> two days after a disappointing debate with mitt romney, president obama look

, changing topics here. big bird. we can't not talk about big bird. he's become the big talker. pbs, though, just a small fraction of the federal budget, as obama is quick to point out. so why do you think the push by romney to end the funding? >> for big bird? >> well, for pbs, sure. >> right. well, he said he was a fan of big bird, but i think he used that as an example of a federally funded organization that he believes doesn't need that taxpayer money. it certainly does well with its own private funding drives. i mean, we're forever seeing pbs funding drives, let's face it. so governor romney was just simply illustrating a point that he would be willing to cut even popular things like big bird because he doesn't see that it's a federal responsibility. >> mitt romney now says that he was wrong about that 47% comment as well. listen to this. >> clearly in a campaign with hundreds if not thousands of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you're going to say something that doesn't come out right. in this case, i said something that's just completely wrong. >> president oba

the subsidies to pbs. i like pbs and big bird and i like you, too, but i'm not going to keep spending money on things i have to borrow money to pay for it. martha: big bird woke and heard that. users posted 17,000 big bird tweets a minute. one such account @firedbigbird. bill: a year ago in a conversation with governor romney he said when i get one-on-one in the president he's going to say x and i'll say y. he will say "a" and i'll say "b." that was a year ago. he has been waiting a year. if you look at these snap polls. oftentimes this is an emotional reaction. whether it's cbs or cnn there was a clear winner in this debates. martha: governor romney had take and lot of heat from conservative watchers of all of this who said he had yet to make a passionate conservative argument throughout the course of this campaign. i think those folks will be satisfied with what they saw last night. he was ago that and connected to what he was saying. he made his points. and he turned that key in a way that may satisfy the bill kristols of the world and the other people who had been negative on him. bill:

to pbs. i like pbs. i love big bird. i like you too. megyn: last but not least the sound bite we cut talking about how he didn't understand barack obama's charge about setting, how you get a tax break for sending jobs overseas. listen here. >> second topic, which as you said get a deduction for taking a plant overseas. look i've been in business for 25 years. i have no idea what you're talking about. i maybe need to get a new accountant but the idea that you get a break for shipping jobs overseas is simply not the case. what we do have right now is where i like to bring money from overseas back to this country. megyn: your thoughts? >> well, i think that, mitt romney was trailing president obama on the likeability factor. the clips you show show mitt romney being more likeable than ones average voters see on given night at rally and crowd, he comes across much sterner while banging it away. he has moderated tone in that debate. the question whether he can do it. his campaign talked about etch-a-sketch moment. maybe that is the case. given six weeks romney had coming into the debate.

minutes and then there is a rebuttal. megyn: jim lehrer of pbs will be moderating. they devote the rest of the 15-minute block to a discussion. so hopefully there will be a chance to press the candidates for followup, or real answers if they try to dodge. because you know and our viewers know having watched 25 presidential debates during the primaries, they all do it. they dodge. they hear this is a question on jobs. what's my policy on jobs, this what is i'm going to say without necessarily answering the question asked. hopefully the mat, the discussion after the initial response will give us a chance to hear real answers. having studies up on these debates it seems like the need many gets moved not so much by these soaring rhetorical moment but by a gafer that one of them may have or by one moment of connection that they may have with the viewers at home. ronald reagan, there you go again. bill: i think you make a great point on that. what you are saying is it's built in a format that will help encourage robust exchanges that would alloy the other to challenge the other one. megyn: we

and looked down. he's never making contact. >> i'm sorry. if you're planning on waxing big bird off of pbs, i don't think that there's americans down for that. >> so, that is from you. thank you for your cnn ireports. now, to twitter. how about some tweets? some downright priceless. first, from dennis miller, obama better hope a kicked rear end is covered under obamacare. next om indecision. the october surprise in this election is that mitt romney is actually good at something. ouch. jim sterling tweets, obama is winning the "looking amazingly condescending when the other guy talks" race. finally this one for you from doug benson. just 14 minutes until we can all go back to preferring the kand date we liked when the debate started. all from twitter. we have a lot more. you know, as far as what happened last night and i promise to hear from the president and it sounds as though he is still debating today. he spoke just a couple hours ago in denver. here he is, president barack obama. >> i met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be mitt romney. but it couldn't have been mitt romney becaus

claim the moderator, jim lehrer are of pbs was basically too right-wing and acting in concert with the romney campaign somehow, which is denial to a level that is truly amusing. bill: if that is the one observation you have i'mcuriousu observe this. this is al gore talking about the altitude in colorado, specifically the city of denver. roll this. >> obama arrived in denver at 2:00 p.m. today, just a few hours before the debate started. romney did his debate prep in denver. when you go to 5,000 feet -- >> exactly. >> and you only have a few hours to adjust. >> that is interesting. >> i don't know, maybe --. bill: did you hear that voice in the background, that's interesting? now, it is true, and it is factual he left vegas around 2:00 in the afternoon. but just on the face, what do you think of that? >> well that may be its effect on vice president gore. i think the president is in peek physical condition. i think he could probably handle 5,000 feet. this is why the president had a problem in the macro explanation, is, people like al gore, suck up to the president. every presi

demoderates a debate a pbs anchor that fox has power over him. so look at the ridiculous nature of what i'm saying. this is in defense of the indefensible, on stub tans president obama was not ready. he was not ready to handle the result of the months of attacking mitt romney. he had been attacking him, calling him a liar, a his campaign. the responsible for the murder of a woman. now unfiltered meeting with mitt romney and they were face to face, that's a difficult position. so ed schultz lied about it, axelrod dishonest and liar. they are pushing a narrative of negative much like the president said he would do if you have nothing to run on you make your opponent someone to run away from to paraphrase. >> silly a couple days ago i was talking to a republic strategist african-american and she was saying that black men sometimes do have to worry about this. whether it be in business or any field. >> why? then that's. >> some white people in our society do react to a strong point of view as oh you are an angry black man. >> i eject that. it's a ridiculous proposition. you are as you are. ac
